About this dinner
The evening
Wayan collects you from your villa or guesthouse in the late afternoon and takes you back through the lanes to the family compound — a few streets and a whole world from the beach road.
Cooking
Kadek starts every meal the same way: base genep, the Balinese spice paste, ground by hand in a stone mortar. You will grind it with her, and you will smell it for the rest of the evening.
Eating
Everything goes out at once, family style, and everyone eats together in the courtyard.
Meet Wayan & Kadek
Wayan grew up in the compound the dinner happens in, back when the beach road was a track through the rice. Kadek learned to cook from her grandmother in Tabanan, and the spice paste she grinds is that recipe, unchanged.
They started hosting because their sons had moved to Denpasar for work and the kitchen was too quiet.

Free cancellation up to 24 hours before your dinner, for a full refund. After that the family has already shopped for your meal, so we cannot refund.

Is it far from the beach road?
A few minutes by car. Close enough to be easy, far enough that it feels like a different place entirely.
