Eat dinner in someone's home

LocalBridge arranges dinners with local host families in Indonesia. The family collects you from your hotel, you cook together in their kitchen, you eat with them, and they take you home.

How it works

Book a family, not a tour

Each dinner is one household, with their own kitchen and their own recipes. You book them, not a company.

They collect you

From your hotel, at a time you agree the day before. No addresses to find and nothing to arrange.

Cook, eat, get taken home

You are a guest at their table for the evening, not an audience. They drive you back when you are ready.

The dinners

Fish, chicken or vegetarian?

You choose. They shop that morning.

Every dinner is cooked around what you actually eat. Tell us fish, chicken or vegetarian when you book — along with anything you cannot eat — and your hosts buy for it the same day. Nothing is made in advance and reheated for guests.

We were collected from our hotel at five thirty and spent the evening in Lalu and Sinta's kitchen. Sinta showed me how to grind the sambal properly but mine was far too coarse and we ate everything we had made off a banana leaf on the floor with the whole family. Easily the best evening of our trip.

Where the money goes

Most food tours are run by companies. The cook is an employee, the kitchen is a venue, and the family whose recipes you are eating is not in the room.

LocalBridge is the other way round. The family is the business. They set their own dates, they cook what they actually eat, and booking here rather than through an agency means more of what you pay reaches the household that cooks for you.
